Folgefonna Nasjonalpark

From the ski centre, the ski lift carries you to 1450 metres above sea level – then you can look forward to 1.1 km of downhill skiing, with a 250-metre altitude drop. You’re actually skiing on Jorfjellbreen, a 300-metre-wide glacier arm of Nordfonna, the northern portion of Folgefonna glacier.

From fjord to glacier – and back again

If you prefer the solitude of the open snow-covered land, the terrain is ideal for cross-country skiing. Later in the day, you may opt to go swimming in the fjord below – it’s like experiencing four seasons in a single day.

Skis and snowboards can be rented at the centre, which also has a café offering food and refreshments.

A 20-minute drive takes you from the fjordside village of Jondal up to the very edge of the glacier, and there is plenty of parking. If you’re not travelling Norway by car, just hop on the convenient bus that takes you from Jondal up to the ski centre.
